ANA NH864 Economy Review: Gimpo to Haneda on the Boeing 787

ANA Flight NH864 Review: Gimpo to Haneda Economy Experience

Hello 🖐️! Today I’m sharing my review of ANA Flight NH864, which I took on my way to New York. This was my first time flying with ANA, and since they operate the Gimpo-Haneda route, I was really curious about what the experience would be like. If you’re thinking about taking this route, I hope this review gives you some useful insights!

Flight Details: Gimpo to Haneda

ANA NH864 ticket and boarding pass

Flight Overview

Flight NH864 departs Gimpo Airport at 12:20 PM and lands at Tokyo Haneda at 2:20 PM. This flight is operated by a Boeing 787, and it’s a high-demand route—both business and economy were completely full on my trip. I originally planned to upgrade to business class for the Haneda–New York leg, but a last-minute change kept me in economy. Still, the flight was comfortable and the service was quick and efficient.

Boeing 787 Experience

ANA is one of the first airlines to use the Boeing 787, and they have a large fleet of them. This route uses the 787 mainly for its fuel efficiency and comfort. Personally, I prefer the 2-4-2 seating in the Airbus A330, but the 787’s 3-3-3 layout still felt spacious enough. Couples might find it a bit snug, but it’s a good choice for solo travelers.

Boarding Process and In-Flight Wi-Fi

Boarding Experience

Boarding was smooth and efficient, with ANA grouping passengers by zones to keep things moving. My group boarded after the rear section filled up. There was a bit of a walk along the boarding bridge, but the whole process was straightforward and quick.

In-Flight Wi-Fi

I tried out ANA’s in-flight Wi-Fi during the flight. The speed isn’t lightning-fast, but it works for messaging and light web browsing. It’s definitely nice to be able to stay connected mid-flight, even if you’re not going to stream videos or upload large files.

Seating Comfort and Meals

Economy Seat and Legroom

Although I wasn’t able to upgrade to business class, I was lucky to get a bulkhead seat in economy, which meant extra legroom. The only downside was that the monitor for in-flight entertainment was stored below and had to be pulled out—less convenient, but not a big issue for a short flight.

Meal Choices

ANA economy seafood meal
ANA fruit meal
ANA seafood pasta
ANA fruit platter

Before the flight, I pre-ordered my meals through ANA’s website and chose both seafood and fruit options. The seafood spaghetti was a little disappointing, but the fruit plate was fresh and tasty. If you want something light, especially after eating at a lounge, the fruit meal is a solid pick.

Arrival and Immigration at Haneda

Landing and Arrival Process

We landed smoothly at Tokyo Haneda, and since I was seated near the front, I was able to get off the plane quickly. Immigration was a bit slow due to multiple arrivals at once—it took about 40 minutes to get through. If you’re flying this route, I recommend setting aside at least an hour for immigration and luggage pickup, just to be safe.

Final Thoughts on ANA Economy

Conclusion

ANA 787 taxiing

Overall, my experience on ANA Flight NH864 was comfortable and mostly hassle-free. The service was efficient, but nothing really stood out as exceptional. I did notice some other passengers near the bulkhead not being very considerate, but that’s not unique to ANA. All in all, I’d fly ANA again without hesitation, and I’m also curious to try JAL next time for comparison.
