Cicada Resort Bali Ubud Stay Review

Hello🖐️🖐️ Today I’m sharing a quick recap of my two-night stay in Ubud at Cicada Resort Bali Ubud, Autograph Collection. It’s a five-star resort in Marriott’s luxury lineup, and the best part is that every room is a suite. If you’re after a quiet, nature-forward stay in Ubud where the days naturally slow down, this place fits the bill. Ready to head into the greenery?
About Cicada Resort Bali Ubud

We arrived by Grab taxi. A small detail I liked: the name “Cicada” is a nod to the cicada, and once you spot the logo and design accents, you’ll start noticing the motif around the property. The concept behind the resort is also clear: it’s designed as a place where you can tune in to nature’s soundtrack and take a real break from the noise.

Autograph Collection is Marriott International’s independent luxury brand, built around properties that feel distinct rather than standardized. Their line “Exactly like nothing else” makes sense once you start staying at a few of them: each hotel leans into its own story, design, and local character. Cicada follows that approach nicely, pairing Ubud’s dense greenery with a clean, contemporary style that still feels right at home in the jungle setting.
Welcome ritual

Around check-in, guests are invited to take part in a traditional Balinese welcome ritual. It’s more than a photo moment, and it’s based on a simplified version of a Balinese Blessing ceremony. The meaning is straightforward: it’s a wish for safe travels and peace during your stay.

First, they sprinkled holy water, which symbolizes washing away any lingering negative energy and starting your stay with a clear head. Next, they placed a small wet grain of rice on the center of the forehead, a gesture meant to invite good fortune, prosperity, and blessings.
To finish, they tied a three-color bracelet around the wrist. The three colors represent the cycle of life (birth, life, and death) and the balance of the universe, and it’s also believed to protect the wearer from misfortune. Most people keep it on until it naturally falls off.
Resort activities

Depending on the day, the resort offers a mix of complimentary activities and paid experiences. The free schedule can include yoga, a morning walk, a village stroll, making canang sari offerings, and Melukat (a purification blessing ritual). We reserved Melukat during our stay, and I’ll share the full rundown in a separate post. There are also paid options like jeep tours, so if you’re interested, it’s worth booking ahead.
Check-in

One of the little pleasures of traveling around Bali is tasting each hotel’s take on a welcome drink. It sounds small, but after a few stays, you realize these details often set the tone from the moment you arrive.
At Cicada, check-in was calm and comfortable, with seating arranged so you can take your time. While we waited, staff brought out a cool, nicely scented towel and a refreshing welcome drink. The lemongrass came through clearly, and it matched Ubud’s fresh, leafy vibe right away.
Resort views

From the lobby to the guest rooms, the resort keeps you close to Ubud’s lush landscape. Here, the jungle view isn’t just something you notice in passing, it’s what defines the whole stay. Beach views are great, but the layered depth of rainforest feels different, like the scenery has its own texture. With deep green filling the frame at every turn, this was one of the most “Ubud” feeling places we stayed in Bali.
Cicada Resort Tangelo Restaurant

Right next to the lobby is Tangelo Restaurant, where breakfast, lunch, and dinner are served. We ate here several times during our stay, and it made things easy: plenty of choice, consistently good quality, and enough variety that you don’t feel like you’re repeating the same meal. You’ll find Balinese classics alongside Western options, so most travelers can pick what they’re in the mood for without any stress.

Cicada also offers complimentary afternoon tea and a daily sundowner cocktail service. The sundowner is served at Tangelo Restaurant, and the atmosphere changes nicely as the light fades. Around sunset, it’s a great place to settle in with a cocktail on the house. If you’re traveling for a honeymoon or celebrating something special, reserving a romantic dinner in advance would be a memorable touch.

On certain nights, Tangelo hosts live performances during dinner. When we visited, we watched the traditional Balinese Legong dance. Being able to enjoy a cultural show while you eat feels like a nice bonus, and because the dancers perform so close to the tables, the experience feels immediate and engaging. The dinner set menu was also well structured and tasted great, which made the evening easy to recommend.
Facilities at Cicada Resort

Head down from the lobby and you’ll find the resort’s main pool. With only a small number of rooms on the property, it tends to stay quiet, so you can swim and lounge without feeling crowded. The jungle backdrop is the star here, and between the generous sunbeds and comfortable water temperature, it’s an easy place to spend an afternoon.

Right beside the pool is Verdant Pool Lounge & Bar, where you can order meals and light snacks. It’s handy when you want something casual between swims. Guests also receive complimentary afternoon tea once per day, which is a nice perk if you like a mid-day break with something small to nibble on.

The resort also has Pravi SPA, offering treatments like spa rituals and massages. It’s well reviewed on major platforms such as TripAdvisor, with over 100 reviews and an average rating of five out of five. I booked a one-hour massage and left feeling refreshed. If you have time during your stay, penciling in a spa session is a good call.
Room review at Cicada Resort

We stayed two nights in the Valley Suite. The resort keeps things intentionally small, with 10 pool villas and 20 suites for a total of 30 rooms. That scale gives the whole place a relaxed rhythm, and it’s easy to enjoy a sense of privacy throughout the stay.
Valley Suite room details

This is the Valley Suite at Cicada Resort Bali Ubud (Cicada Verde Suite, 1 Bedroom Suite, 1 King, Forest view, Balcony). Depending on the layout, suites range from 66 to 77 square meters. For comparison, many standard rooms at five-star hotels fall around 35 to 40 square meters, so this suite gives you a lot more breathing room from the start.

The sleeping and living areas aren’t separated by a wall, but the suite is large enough that it still feels well zoned. There’s also a sofa facing the TV, which made it an easy spot to unwind back in the room after a day exploring Ubud.
In-room amenities

The suite comes with a thoughtful set of amenities for day-to-day comfort. I also liked the coffee and tea setup, with a capsule machine and a good range of teas, which is handy when you want a quiet morning in the room.

They also provide wooden slippers and a rattan hat and bag that you can use around the resort. They held up well and looked great, so we ended up reaching for them often. The bag is also available for purchase, which makes it a nice souvenir if you prefer something you’ll actually use back home.👍
Balcony

If I had to pick one favorite spot in the suite, it would be the balcony. It’s large enough to feel like an extra outdoor living area, with a sofa and a daybed for reading, napping, or doing nothing at all. Ubud usually runs cooler than other parts of Bali thanks to the greenery, and during the dry season, the lower humidity makes balcony time even more comfortable.

The balcony looks out over Ubud’s signature jungle view, and it’s the kind of scenery you’ll keep coming back to. Grab a seat, let the green fill your view, and enjoy a cold beer at your own pace.

Final thoughts

Bali is full of resorts, but Cicada Resort Ubud stands out as a small luxury property where every room starts at the suite level. The atmosphere stays calm and private, and it’s a good choice if you want a stay that’s more about resting well than rushing around. As you’d expect from a higher-tier Marriott brand, service is consistent and the overall experience feels dependable.
In my next post, I’ll share a deeper look at the resort’s facilities, dining, and the performances you can catch during your stay.
