Swissotel Grand Shanghai: A Luxurious Urban Retreat
During my recent two-night trip to Shanghai, I had the pleasure of staying at the Swissotel Grand Shanghai (上海宏安瑞士大酒店), a distinguished member of the global Accor hotel group. Nestled in the heart of Shanghai, this 5-star hotel impressed me not only with its prime location but also with its excellent room conditions, breathtaking views, and superb Club Lounge facilities. In this review, I’ll delve into the various aspects of the Swissotel Grand Shanghai, focusing particularly on my Executive Twin Room experience.
Checking In at Swissotel Grand Shanghai
One of the standout features of the Swissotel Grand Shanghai is undoubtedly its location. While my group primarily used taxis, the hotel’s proximity to Jing’an Temple Station, a hub for three subway lines, makes public transportation incredibly convenient. Furthermore, the Swissotel Grand Shanghai is surrounded by major shopping malls, department stores, and a vibrant array of shops, meaning a wealth of shopping and dining options are just a short stroll away.
We arrived a bit before the official check-in time, but thanks to providing our estimated arrival time in advance, the Swissotel Grand Shanghai staff graciously accommodated us with a prompt and smooth check-in process.
Swissotel Grand Shanghai Lobby
The ground-floor lobby of the Swissotel Grand Shanghai, while not excessively large, was an elegantly appointed space showcasing the meticulous Swiss-inspired design细节 (details) characteristic of the Swissotel brand. Befitting its status as a 5-star hotel within Accor’s premium portfolio, an atmosphere of sophistication and class permeated the area. I also had the chance to enjoy afternoon tea in the lobby lounge, an experience I’ll share more about in a future post.
The elevators, prominently situated in the center of the lobby, were easy to locate. The elevator hall itself was stylishly designed, further enhancing the 5-star ambiance of the Swissotel Grand Shanghai. I was also pleased with the elevators’ speed and availability, as there were several cars<seg_45> (operating), minimizing any wait times.
Executive Twin Room
Guest Room Hallway
Upon exiting the elevator on my floor, I noticed a staircase directly ahead. This offered a convenient alternative route to the Club Lounge, bypassing the need for an elevator.
We were assigned room 2523 on the 25th floor of the Swissotel Grand Shanghai. The hallway leading to the rooms was fully carpeted, which effectively dampened any noise from foot traffic. This ensured a quiet and peaceful environment inside our room, free from corridor disturbances.
Inside the Executive Twin Room
Stepping into the Executive Twin Room at Swissotel Grand Shanghai, I was greeted by a warm and inviting atmosphere, largely thanks to the wood-toned interior design. The flooring was a tasteful combination of carpet, hardwood, and marble, adding a touch of luxury and contributing to a comfortable stay.
Executive rooms at the Swissotel Grand Shanghai offer a choice between a king-size bed or twin beds and are typically located on the higher floors, from the 23rd to the 29th. Our room was a spacious 35 square meters (approximately 377 sq ft), providing ample space for two adults. For me, the bed and bedding are crucial aspects of any hotel stay, and the Swissotel Grand Shanghai did not disappoint. The bedding was exceptionally plush, enveloping me in comfort and ensuring a warm and restful night’s sleep.
Beside each bed, a small table provided a convenient spot for phones and other personal items. Near the window, a comfortable leather sofa was perfectly positioned for relaxing, Browse on a phone, or simply unwinding. It was also an ideal spot for gazing out at the cityscape from our room at the Swissotel Grand Shanghai.
The room also featured a dedicated work desk and chair, suitable for laptop use, and a long, wall-mounted table that proved very useful for placing various belongings.
Executive Room View
A large window spanning one entire wall of the room offered an expansive, open feel. I was particularly pleased that sections of the window could be opened from both sides, allowing for natural ventilation – a feature I highly value in a hotel, as I prioritize fresh air. This is a big plus for the Swissotel Grand Shanghai.
The city view from my room at the Swissotel Grand Shanghai was truly spectacular. Given the hotel’s central location in Shanghai, I hadn’t anticipated such a stunning panorama, but both the daytime scenery and the glittering nightscape were breathtaking. We were also fortunate to have clear, sunny weather during our stay, which made the views of the bright blue sky even more enjoyable.
Amenities
The room at Swissotel Grand Shanghai was well-stocked with a variety of amenities, including a capsule coffee machine, four complimentary bottles of mineral water, a refrigerator, slippers, bathrobes, an iron, and an electric kettle. These thoughtful provisions ensured a comfortable and hassle-free stay.
When I returned to my room after being out for the afternoon, I found that turndown service had been provided. The bedding was neatly arranged, and a small chocolate and fresh water had been placed by the bedside – a lovely, considerate touch that I appreciated.
Bathroom
Reflecting the generous size of the room, the bathroom at the Swissotel Grand Shanghai was also quite spacious. It featured a separate shower stall and bathtub, which was very convenient. The towels provided were thick and soft, adding to the comfort. On this trip to Shanghai, I brought a filtered showerhead, but I noticed little to no change in the filter’s color after use. This suggested to me that the water quality is relatively good, so bringing a special showerhead might not be necessary.
Club Lounge
As guests in an Executive room at the Swissotel Grand Shanghai, we had access to the Club Lounge. The lounge hours were: breakfast from 7:00 AM to 10:30 AM, afternoon tea from 2:30 PM to 4:30 PM, and happy hour from 5:30 PM to 10:00 PM. I’ll share more details about my Club Lounge experience at the Swissotel Grand Shanghai in a separate, dedicated post.
Overall Thoughts on Swissotel Grand Shanghai
My overall impression of the Swissotel Grand Shanghai is overwhelmingly positive. Above all, its location is exceptional, with a bustling commercial area nearby, convenient public transport, and excellent accessibility to major tourist attractions. In terms of facilities, the spacious rooms, beautiful city views, and satisfying Club Lounge services all contributed to a thoroughly enjoyable stay. Therefore, I can confidently recommend the Swissotel Grand Shanghai to anyone planning a trip to Shanghai.
