ANA Flight NH864 Economy Class (Gimpo to Haneda, Boeing 787)

Hello 🖐️! Today, I’m sharing my review of ANA Flight NH864, which I took on my journey to New York. This was my first time flying with ANA, and since the airline operates the Gimpo-Haneda route, I was curious to see what the experience would be like. If you’re considering this route, I hope this review will give you some useful insights!

Flight Details: Gimpo to Haneda

Flight Overview

Flight NH864 departs Gimpo Airport at 12:20 PM and arrives at Tokyo Haneda at 2:20 PM. Operated by a Boeing 787, this is a high-demand route, which was clear from the fact that both business and economy classes were fully booked. I had originally planned to upgrade to business class for the Haneda-New York leg, but due to a last-minute schedule change, I ended up in economy. The flight was comfortable, and the service was efficient.

Boeing 787 Experience

ANA, as one of the first airlines to operate the Boeing 787, has a large fleet of these aircraft. On this route, the 787 was used for its fuel efficiency and comfort. While I personally prefer the 2-4-2 seating configuration of the Airbus A330 for economy class, the 3-3-3 layout on the 787 was still spacious enough. Couples may find this seating arrangement a bit tight, but it’s still a solid choice for solo travelers.

Boarding Process and Wi-Fi on ANA Flight NH864

Boarding Experience

ANA follows an efficient boarding process, grouping passengers by zones to minimize waiting times. My group boarded after the rear seats were filled, and everything moved smoothly. The long boarding bridge gave us a bit of a walk to the plane, but it was an easy and straightforward process.

In-Flight Wi-Fi

During the flight, I took advantage of ANA’s in-flight Wi-Fi. While the internet speed is slower than what you’d get on the ground, it’s still functional enough for messaging apps like KakaoTalk or basic web browsing. It’s a nice bonus for staying connected during the flight, even if it’s not as fast as regular Wi-Fi. 👍❤️

Seating Comfort and Meal Options on ANA Flight NH864

Economy Seat and Legroom

Though I didn’t get upgraded to business class, I was assigned a bulkhead seat in economy, which offered extra legroom. The downside was that the in-flight entertainment monitor was positioned lower and required me to pull it out from under the seat in front, which was a bit inconvenient. However, since the flight was relatively short, it didn’t cause much of a problem.

Meal Choices

Before the flight, I pre-ordered my meals through ANA’s website. I chose the seafood and fruit meals. The seafood option, a spaghetti dish, was underwhelming, but the fruit plate was fresh and delicious. It’s a great option for those who want something light, especially if you’ve already had a meal at the lounge before boarding.

Arrival and Immigration Process

Smooth Landing and Immigration

Our landing at Tokyo Haneda was smooth, and because I was seated in the front, I was able to deboard quickly. However, immigration was a bit slow, and it took about 40 minutes due to other flights arriving at the same time. If you’re flying this route, I recommend budgeting at least an hour for immigration and luggage retrieval.

Final Thoughts on ANA’s Economy Service

Conclusion

Overall, ANA Flight NH864 was a pleasant flight with minimal issues. The service was efficient, but it didn’t stand out in any way. I did find it surprising that some passengers near the bulkhead displayed poor manners, but that wasn’t something unique to ANA. Despite this, the flight was comfortable, and I’d definitely consider flying with ANA again. I’d also love to try Japan Airlines (JAL) for a similar route next time to compare the two airlines.
