Best Value Eel Bowl in Fukuoka | Unagi-no-Naruse Review

hello. Today I’m going to introduce you to a great eel bowl restaurant in Fukuoka, Japan. It’s a restaurant specializing in unagi rice bowls called Unagi-no-naruse, which I stumbled upon while exploring the area around my hotel, and it seems to be a franchise restaurant with several locations in Fukuoka. It’s only been open for a short time, so I recommend it as a place where you can have a good meal and enjoy Unagi at a good price.

Introducing Fukuoka’s Best Value Eel Bowl Restaurants

In July, when I visited, the area near Nakasu-Kawabata Station, where I was staying, was full of festivals, and I found this restaurant specializing in unagi (eel rice bowls) while looking for a place to eat dinner. I was debating whether or not to go in because I already had a place to go, but I was craving eel and it looked like it had just opened, so I went in because it had a good reputation and was reasonably priced.

The place I visited was Unagi no Naruse (鰻の成瀬 博多呉服町店). If you search for Unaginonaruse, there are several branches in Fukuoka, so I think you can visit one near you. The interior was quite clean and tidy because it was just opened, but according to reviews of other branches, there was a wait, but it was nice that there were not many people here and it was quiet👍 The interior is not very big, but I felt a cozy atmosphere.

Unaginonaruse Eel Rice Bowl Menu

Menu & Prices

  • UME 1,600 yen
  • TAKE 2,200 yen
  • Highball 1 glass 550 yen

There are English menus and pictures at each table, which made it easy to order. The menu has three types of eel: UME, TAKE, and MATSU, depending on the size of the eel. If you want more rice, you can add 100 yen. We ordered one UME for 1,600 yen and one TAKE for 2,200 yen. It felt quite cheap since the exchange rate of the yen was around 800 won, but if you consider that just eating soup in Korea costs 10,000 won these days, you can say that it’s a great value for money 👍.

The drink menu includes bottled beer, sake, highballs, and soft drinks, and we ordered an extra highball for an additional 550 yen.

Fukuoka eel bowl unagi no naruse meal

After a short wait, my eel bowl was served. The unagi is served neatly plated like this, with wasabi, ginger, and other condiments to go with it, as well as rice bowl sauce and miso soup.

Before tasting the delicious eel rice bowl, I had a highball. It was a decent flavored highball, but it would have been nice to have a full glass like a beer, but it was a little disappointing to see a lot of empty space.

The eel, which was grilled to a nice, golden brown, looks quite delicious, right? 👍 The smell of the eel was really good, and it was lightly seasoned and tender. If you eat the eel on top of white rice with wasabi and scallions, it tastes like honey, but if you want a little more sweet and savory flavor, you can pour the sauce that came with it.

It would go so well with a cold draft beer, but I was a little disappointed that they only sold bottled beer.

The total bill came to 4,350 yen, so if you don’t order any alcoholic beverages or drinks, you can probably get it cheaper : ) I think it’s a pretty good value for money. There are a lot of eel restaurants in Fukuoka, but I highly recommend this place for those who want to enjoy a delicious meal without breaking the bank.

Overall review

Unagi-no-naruse is a restaurant where you can eat unagi rice bowl from 1,600 yen, so it’s a good value for money. The price is low, but the atmosphere inside is clean, the staff is very friendly, and most importantly, the taste of the eel bowl (unagi don) is good👍 The eel bowl is a dish that is difficult to eat cheaply, so I recommend you to enjoy it cheaply when you visit Fukuoka: D
