Le Méridien Phuket Mai Khao Beach Resort Review: Two Nights, Dining, Spa, Pool & Beach

Hello everyone! Today I’m sharing my experience of a two-night stay at Le Méridien Phuket Mai Khao Beach Resort during my recent trip to Phuket. With so many hotels and resorts on the island, choosing where to stay can be quite a challenge. This resort sits on Mai Khao Beach in northern Phuket. It’s a little removed from the main tourist areas, but its quiet beach and spacious swimming pool make it a lovely place to slow down and enjoy a relaxing resort stay.

👆 Take a quick look around the resort in the clip linked above. 👆

The resort is approximately 13 km from Phuket International Airport, or around 15–20 minutes by car. Its proximity to the airport makes it a convenient choice for your first night in Phuket or the last stop before flying home. On the other hand, it’s some distance from major sightseeing areas such as Patong Beach and Phuket Town, so it’s better suited to a stay focused on relaxing at the resort than heading out to explore every day.

There’s also a similarly named Le Méridien Phuket Beach Resort on the island. The Mai Khao Beach resort I’m introducing here is a different property, so be sure to double-check the location when booking.

Lobby and Check-in

After arriving at the hotel, we headed to the lobby to check in. The first thing that caught my eye was a colorful sculpture made from recycled materials. It was such an unusual piece to find in a hotel that I naturally reached for my camera. The high wooden ceiling and large sofas dotted around the lobby gave the space an open, airy feel.

On one side of the lobby is The Nook, a café and boutique. I really liked its thoughtfully designed interior—it was just my style. Along with coffee, light meals, and pastries, it sells small travel essentials and souvenirs. A long stretch of seating beside the floor-to-ceiling windows looked like a pleasant place to unwind over a cup of coffee.

At check-in, we were offered a delicious welcome drink and a cool towel. The lobby isn’t particularly large, but it’s bright and nicely decorated, which made for a good first impression. 🙂

Even the room key cards feature the resort’s signature colorful designs. There seem to be several different versions, and I think it would be fun to receive a different design each time you visit. 🙂

Our Room at Le Méridien Phuket Mai Khao Beach Resort

We stayed in a Premium Cabana Terrace Room. The room was decorated in light beige and warm wood tones, with a distinctive pattern on the wall behind the bed and a colorful rug on the floor. I liked how the interior felt clean and uncluttered while still having a little character.

There was plenty of space on either side of the bed, along with a small table and chairs by the window. The table held information about the resort as well as a welcome gift. The dessert, beautifully arranged with flowers, was so carefully presented that I had to take a photo before trying it. 🙂

Large windows brought plenty of light into the room, and at sunset, a warm orange glow filtered through the curtains, making it feel even more inviting. It never felt cramped, even when we spent a long time inside, so it was a comfortable place to relax. We also enjoyed afternoon tea in our room and had a lovely time over the sweet treats. 🙂

The room was equipped with a capsule coffee machine, bottled water, and a selection of teas. Cups, spoons, and tea bags are neatly organized in the drawers, so you can simply take out whatever you need. There was also an in-room dining menu and a guide to the room’s facilities.

Bathroom and Amenities

The bathroom has separate areas for the vanity, shower, and toilet. The spacious vanity and lighting around the mirror made it easy to use, while the shower had both an overhead rain shower and a handheld showerhead, along with useful storage space.

The toiletries were by MALIN+GOETZ. Individually packaged amenities and towels were also neatly arranged on the vanity. It isn’t an especially lavish bathroom, but the well-separated areas made it feel practical.

Room Terrace and Views

My favorite part of the room was the terrace. True to the Premium Cabana name, there was a large daybed outside, surrounded by lush palms and tropical plants. With glimpses of the pool and blue sea through the trees, it really felt like a tropical getaway.

The room doesn’t have a completely unobstructed ocean view, but I actually found the close-up views of the green gardens rather cozy. Simply sitting on the terrace and looking out toward the pool was a relaxing way to spend some time.

Swimming Pool at Le Méridien Phuket Mai Khao Beach Resort

The outdoor swimming pool is probably where you’ll end up spending the most time at this resort. The main pool follows a long, curving shape, with plenty of sun loungers and umbrellas on both sides. Mai Khao Beach is right in front of the resort, so you can glimpse the sea through the trees. The palms and large trees surrounding the pool made the setting especially lovely.

It has a different feel from the elevated infinity pools overlooking the sea at some other Phuket resorts. Here, the pool blends naturally into the gardens, giving it a relaxed tropical atmosphere even while you’re swimming. The water looked particularly beautiful on clear days. 🙂

There’s also a separate water-play area for children beside the main pool. With a shallow pool and play equipment that sprays water, it looked like a good option for families with young children. I liked that the pool areas catered to different preferences, whether you were visiting as a family, a couple, or with other adults.

While relaxing by the pool, we also ordered drinks and some light food. Sipping a coconut drink and ice-cold cola between swims made it feel like a proper holiday. 🙂

The atmosphere around the pool is something I pay particular attention to when choosing a hotel for a relaxing stay. Here, I liked being able to see the pool right in front of my sun lounger, with plenty of trees around to keep the surroundings feeling open and pleasant. Time passed quickly as we alternated between swimming, sipping drinks, and simply resting. If you stay here, I’d recommend leaving at least one day free of other plans so you can take your time by the pool.

Mai Khao Beach

Mai Khao Beach is just a short walk from the swimming pool. Compared with Phuket’s well-known Patong Beach, it’s much less crowded, with a remarkably long stretch of sand. There aren’t many tall buildings or shops nearby, which gives it a wonderfully quiet atmosphere.

You can stroll along the shore, rest on a beach chair under the trees, or take photos on the beach swing. The wide-open views of the sea and sky were enjoyable enough without needing to plan any particular activity. Swimming in the sea can be dangerous depending on the weather and waves, though, so be sure to check the local guidance before entering the water.

The sunset was the most memorable part of Mai Khao Beach for me. As the sun began to sink, the sky turned orange, then gradually filled with shades of pink and purple. It was one of the most beautiful sunsets I saw on this trip to Phuket.

You can see toward the sea from the resort pool, but I’d recommend heading down to the beach itself at sunset. Standing on the broad stretch of sand and looking out over the water was a lovely way to experience Phuket’s laid-back atmosphere. The view was even more beautiful in person than in the photos, and it’s stayed with me ever since. 🙂

Explore Spa

The resort also has Explore Spa, offering massages and a variety of treatments. Set apart within the gardens, it’s surrounded by dense trees and plants from the moment you reach the entrance. It feels more secluded than the pool area, with a private atmosphere of its own.

Inside, there’s a reception and relaxation area, while the individual treatment rooms are housed in small pavilions. According to the hotel’s official information, there are five private treatment pavilions, with treatments including traditional Thai massages and facials. Looking around, I saw spaces for foot baths and massage beds, all decorated with natural materials for a warm, cozy feel.

Phuket has plenty of massage shops outside the resorts, but being able to enjoy a spa treatment in a private setting without going anywhere is certainly an advantage. Treatment options and prices may vary depending on when you book, so check the official website or ask at the spa desk for details.

Dinner at Ocean Kitchen

In the evening, we visited Ocean Kitchen, a Mediterranean restaurant within the resort. Located right beside the pool, it serves a variety of dishes, including seafood and pizza. A large circular bar sits on one side, with sofas and tables arranged around the pool, creating a casual, relaxed atmosphere.

Before dinner, we ordered a refreshing mango juice and a mocktail and took some time to unwind.

Ocean Kitchen is particularly atmospheric around sunset. When we visited, an orange glow began to appear over the sea as the sun went down. With soft lighting in the restaurant and the pool and beach just ahead, it was a lovely setting for dinner.

I enjoyed being able to dine while looking out at the scenery, rather than sitting entirely indoors as you might at a typical hotel restaurant. Personally, I’d suggest arriving a little before sunset, enjoying the changing sky, and then settling in for dinner. 🙂

The Food

For dinner, we started with a seafood appetizer, followed by risotto, grilled meat, and a fish dish. The starter featured thinly sliced seafood neatly plated with herbs and vegetables, and each main dish had its own distinctive presentation.

Ordering both risotto and a meat dish made for a generous meal. The fish came with grilled vegetables and sauce, and the variety worked well for sharing. Since Ocean Kitchen focuses on Mediterranean cuisine, it’s a good option if you’re in the mood for something other than Thai food.

After the meal, we had a Turkish dessert served with ice cream, as well as fresh fruit. The warm pastry and cold ice cream looked particularly tempting together, and the fruit was neatly presented too. It was convenient to enjoy a leisurely dinner and dessert all in one place.

After dinner, there was a fire show on the beach. The dazzling performance lasted about ten minutes and was such an exciting way to round off the meal. 🙂 Show schedules can vary by date, so if you’re keen to catch it, I’d recommend asking the hotel in advance.

Once night fell, the lights around Ocean Kitchen gave it a completely different feel from the daytime. With the restaurant so close to both the pool and the beach, it was also a nice area for a short walk after dinner.

Breakfast at J’s Restaurant

Breakfast is served at J’s, the resort’s main restaurant. It sits beside the gardens, with a small water channel and nicely arranged trees in front of the building. Inside, plenty of floor-to-ceiling windows make the space feel bright and open. I particularly liked being able to look out over the green gardens while eating in the morning.

Breakfast is a buffet with both Western and Thai dishes. There was a dedicated Thai food section and an egg station where dishes were cooked to order. It was nice to try some local Thai food alongside the usual hotel breakfast options.

That morning, I tried a little of everything: freshly prepared Thai noodles from the live cooking station, eggs, salad, bread, and fruit. I especially enjoyed starting the day with a warming bowl of Thai noodle soup. 🙂

In-Room Dining

On one morning during our stay, we ordered in-room dining. Breakfast may be one of the highlights of a resort stay, but some days you just don’t feel like heading out. 🙂 On those mornings, ordering in lets you enjoy a slow, comfortable breakfast in your room. I also appreciated that every dish arrived with a lid on—a reassuring touch.

Final Thoughts

What I enjoyed most about our two-night stay at Le Méridien Phuket Mai Khao Beach Resort was its peaceful, relaxed atmosphere. With the pool leading straight toward the beach and a room terrace overlooking the green gardens, simply spending time within the resort was a pleasure. The beautiful sunset at Mai Khao Beach, in particular, is something I’ll remember for a long time.

If you’d rather spend your time swimming, enjoying good food, and relaxing at the spa than sightseeing, I think this would be an excellent choice. Personally, I’d recommend staying at least two nights so you can enjoy it at an unhurried pace. I hope this review helps if you’re looking for somewhere to stay in Phuket’s Mai Khao area. 🙂
